Sleeping in

That's what we've been doing for the past several days since we finished the house.  I find, though, that I can only sleep in till about 8:30 and then my back screams at me to get up.  I have scoliosis and wore a back brace in my early teen years in an effort to correct the curve somewhat, but mostly to just keep it from getting worse as I was finishing up my growing years.  The doctor warned that it might cause arthritis in my later years and he was right.  So, I guess it's a good thing that I don't lay in bed all day like my children can.  Perhaps it's also because I'm more of a morning person anyway.  Our youngest daughter is definitely a night owl - she can sleep till 1 PM on a regular basis!

Our weekend was a fun and lazy one.  The date on Friday was definitely one of the best.  Inception is a really good movie and it was something to talk about while we waited for an hour for a table at Olive Garden - but it was definitely worth the wait.  We had a terrific waiter and the food was perfect!  At the end of the meal, my husband likes to encourage the server to bring us the "proper" amount of mints as we are considering gratuity (you know - those delicious chocolate Andes mints).  Once, we had a server that brought us out 3 mints and Bill gave him the most grief saying, "How can you split 3 mints between 2 people?"  So this time our server, Tanner, says back to my husband "High or low?"....Bill said "high", of course.  Next thing we knew, Tanner was walking to our table with a HUGE handful of mints hidden between his apron and bottle of wine.  He dumped them all on the table and they spilled everywhere as we laughed and laughed!  We dumped them into a paper napkin and took them home where they filled up our candy dish and we have been snacking on them all weekend!  Grazie, Tanner!!

Saturday we spent driving around Charlotte tromping through all the Habitat Restores and Goodwills we could find.  We had a few things we were searching for and found most of them.  Sunday was a lazy day as Bill read the newspaper, napped and I got in some sewing.

I have two new patchwork quillows in the making.  I've used my Moda Aviary charm squares on this one.

This is the pillow portion - ready for hand quilting.

I wanted to use one of the fabrics for the back of the quillow and found a fabulous online fabric shop with a good selection of Aviary prints at great prices.  I've decided on this print for the back.

I've been stashing some Civil War prints and wanted to make a quillow with them.  I just love these fabrics and found it hard to cut into some of them.

The one on the far right of this selection needs a special purpose!

I found this pattern in my stack of old quilt magazines and it will be perfect!

We watched a movie while I sat on the floor and cut out my fabrics and grouped the light and dark pairings together - I won't do that again as it was definitely painful for my back!

I got the pillow portion assembled and now it needs to be quilted, too.

And, as you can see, I found a special place for my favorite print!

So, today I am rejoicing because I don't have to leave the house to go to work!   It is definitely going to be a list-making day today.  There is so much re-organizing and cleaning to do in this household, that I need to make a list of it all so I don't forget it!  One thing I've promised my husband I will do is to clean up my half of the garage.  I have to do a lot of shipping with my sewing business so I'm constantly on the lookout for the right size of boxes for my goods.

I have collected way too many and they are taking over so it's time to break them down and even get rid of a few that are not going to be useful.  I've also got corn on the cob to process that our neighbor gave us and several pitiful-looking tomatoes from my garden that I need to do something with - perhaps I can squeeze out a small batch of salsa.

So, let the list-making begin and perhaps I'll even slip a little "fun" sewing onto my list!!

I love thrift stores because you never know what you'll find.

Sounds like you have grand plans. How many things ended up on your list?

8.30 is a mega sleep in around here too. I'm an annoying up early person. Everyone else here sleeps in.
