An Adjustment

I normally pad around the house in my bare feet.
In winter, I wear fuzzy house socks or even these

I've been waking up in the morning and having a very hard time walking to the bathroom without my feet hurting terribly, and it stumps me as to why I have this pain.  I mean, I've been laying down...why would my feet hurt as if I've been sleeping standing up!?  It usually goes away within a few minutes, but it's still odd as to why my feet should hurt so much in the mornings or even in the middle of the night when 'nature' rouses me.

We have hardwood floors and ceramic tile thru our entire house, except for the bedrooms and basement.  I've been told I walk heavy, so I'm thinking perhaps my problem stems from 'stomping' around the house in bare feet...no cushions, etc.

So, today I decided to make an adjustment.  I will try wearing shoes in the house.

I chose my tennies because they are probably the comfiest and provide the most cushion.  The only other choices were either worn out moccasins or flip flops and I knew they wouldn't help.

I'm not liking it at all.  I keep wanting to kick them off and get comfy - I feel like I'm supposed to be going somewhere since I have my shoes on!  It's also hard to find my sewing machine pedal with these clunky shoes on.

*sigh*

We'll see if it helps any, but for now, Bear gets to wear the slippers in this house!

Owl Fettish

So, what is it with baby owls...
Why are they so dang cute?
I mean they have fluffy little bodies, big heads and HUGE eyeballs!!!...not to mention the ability to emulate demon-possessed Regan and turn their heads all the way around!
I digress...they are stinkin' cute!!!
So, I decided to cash in on their cuteness and everyone else's fettish with the little feathered fellas.
The orders keep rolling in for these owl pinafore sets.

Besides, it gives me lots of practice on my curved sewing.

Let me just say how very very thankful I am for my serger!

These outfits just wouldn't turn out the same without being able to use my serger!

Now available in my main etsy shop

And, if you want some of the fabric for yourself, I've got two varieties available

100% cotton quality quilting fabric
You can find both in my new etsy shop at a new lowered price!!

I survived

Awww...it wasn't so bad after all!  The Ramen noodles, that is.  I survived the first night of Ramen Week....phew!  Three more days to go....(Friday is STILL pizza nite - YAY! - and there won't be any noodles on my pizza)

We had what my husband called "sexy" noodles!  I used a couple of banana peppers from the garden - one had ripened quite a bit on the vine which turned it a pretty red color and gave it a sweet taste.

Also adding some garlic and scallions, gave it a bit of zest.

Then I pan seared a nice sized pork chop, cut it up and mixed it all together with the noodles and seasoning and there you have it....Sexy Pork Ramen!!

I hope I didn't scare you too much with that last picture...

Tonight we're going for the chicken and the noodles are a picante flavor so I'll have to see what I can come up with for that!  ;)
I also want to make some banana bread with a new recipe I got from my blogging friend, Trish (aka Tricia Anne - hardehar- OK, in exchange you can call me Jenny Lynn)
I'm putting together a package to send to my daughters and they might find some banana bread in it!  :)

In my sewing world, I have had a lot of orders for this cute little owl pinafore set

which left me with a bunch of scraps that I really didn't know what to do with and I truly hate having wasted fabric....so I thought that since it was such a popular print, I ought to make a baby quilt out of it.

I found about 5 different fabrics that coordinate with the colors in the owls.
Then I cut charm squares from the owl scraps, and bordered each with 2" strips of the coordinating fabrics

Sew them all together and this is what you get!

I listed it in my etsy shop and it was gone in a few days!  I even have more scraps to do it again.

The things we do for love

Every so often my husband asks me "when are we gonna have Ramen Week?"
Ugh....
He is 10 years older than me and grew up in a house without ramen noodles.  Nor was he a starving college student thriving on the 10-cent-a-pack meal marvel.  I imagine his first taste of those fatty noodles was long after marriage.
Anyway, he craves them so I must treat him at least once a year.
So, you guessed it....this is Ramen Week!!

I try to jazz them up a bit with meat and vegetables mixed in, sort of like a chinese noodle dish.
Tonight we'll be doing the pork version....can't wait....

Back to Business

So, the camping adventure is over
too bad....so sad!
Breakfast tastes so good when cooked and enjoyed outside while watching other folks wake up and go about their day
While I was away, the sky broke loose in my etsy shop and I have been frantically filling orders since I came back!  (I'm not complaining!...gotta pay the bills, right?)
Anyway, in the midst of making things for other people I managed to finish a couple of "fun" things and want to link up to amylouwho's Sew-n-Tell Friday.  A few weeks ago I made a bunch of these quilt blocks from my Heather Bailey collection and was able to stretch them out to use in a couple of projects.
First I made a quillow (you know, one of those things that is both a pillow and a quilt all wrapped up in one)
and then I squeezed a baby quilt out of the rest of the blocks.
I could just shoot myself for not seeing this earlier - two almost identical blocks side by side
Funny how I didn't see it while I quilting it or anything....I think I was concentrating so much on placing the blocks so the border fabrics wouldn't clash too much.
But, no big deal, right?  I enjoyed trying out a new free motion quilting technique in a flower design
That was a new one for me and I like the way it turned out.   I enjoy making baby quilts - they're fairly quick to put together and always look so pretty!
So, now that I've 'played around' for a bit, it's back to business!

The circus moved in next door

Or at least it appears that way

One of my favorite things to do while camping is people-watching and our new neighbors are making this an interesting trip!

The first person I saw was this young guy - besides noticing his wild hairdo, I saw his hands were purple and asked him why...He said he just finished dying the dogs....huh?  Then this appeared and I understood

and this one wouldn't stand still so I could get a good picture of his pink mohawk

Then, the real treat - the boy's mother raises Marmosets

They are little monkeys from the Brazilian rainforest.

They are definitely cute, doncha think?
But somewhat stinky, as you would expect from little creatures that communicate with scent

But they have the prettiest eyes!

And then the camper next to theirs was a bit interesting, too, although they weren't together.

She has all sorts of trinkets and paraphernalia fastened to the outside of her camper.

Not to mention she, too, is a fan of the colored hair!!

Oh, this has been an interesting trip to say the least!  I am enjoying every (unique) minute of it!!
