Labor Day Plans

Labor Day weekend....it just doesn't mean the same to me that it used to when I was in the "working world". About 4 years ago, my husband and I both quit our jobs (we both worked at the same place) and decided to fend for ourselves. He promptly started renovating and building houses and I started my sewing business, somewhat by accident actually.

When you work for "the man", as my husband likes to call it, you really cherish those holidays where you might typically get a long weekend and have Monday off.

On the other hand, when you work for yourself, you don't necessarily get long weekends on specific holidays. Also, if your children are in the public school system, you are more aware of the smaller holidays because of the activities they are involved in surrounding the holidays.

This is not the case with us - we're somewhat spoiled as we take long weekends much more often than we used to, and we tend to take them for granted. Also, our children are either in college or older, so we pretty much lose track of the small holidays like Memorial Day, President's Day, Labor Day, etc....

So, that being said, what are you doing this Labor Day?

We'll start the weekend tonight with homemade pizza night. We make the dough in the bread oven and usually scrounge thru the frig and freezer to see what toppings we can find.

This has become quite a tradition with us in the past several months and we really look forward to fresh pizza and a movie from Netflix.

Oreo cheesecake for dessert!!!

Tomorrow morning, my husband and I are off to the first of our Fall craft shows in Van Wyck, SC - home of Olympic champion, Shawn Crawford.

Then, to top off the weekend, on Sunday night, we thought we'd take a trip to the local drive-in theatre, "The Big Mo", as they are celebrating their 11th annual Labor Day movie weekend with a triple feature!!! THREE movies for $7 per person...you can't beat that!!

We haven't been to the drive-in for a couple of years so I'm really looking forward to this. Once we arrive and pick out our spot, we pile into the back of the truck with our lawn chairs and snack on all sorts of things while we watch the other people arrive.

The first movie starts at dusk which is around 8:15 PM so that means the last movie will probably wrap up between 2 and 3 AM.....the hard part for me is staying awake for the hour-and-a-half long drive home - keeping the hubby company so he doesn't fall asleep at the wheel!

Have you ever been to a drive-in movie? If so, I'd love to hear your experiences! Those places are truly a dying breed. Here's a website I ran across that lists and promotes all the drive-ins in the country http://www.driveinmovie.com/

Have a great and safe holiday weekend!
